Projets en cours : La volonté du peuple. Le but de ce projet est de développer et de défendre une notion de volonté politique démocratique, entendue comme une capacité rationnelle, délibérée et autonome d’autodétermination collective. Outre des récits philosophiques canoniques de la volonté, il s’appuiera notamment sur les travaux politiques de Rousseau, Kant, Hegel et Marx, ainsi que de Blanqui et Gramsci. Il complétera l’analyse de ces idées par un examen des notions opposées de la "volonté du peuple" issues des luttes révolutionnaires commencées à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, ainsi que par une discussion critique sur les récits quasi-volontaristes de libre arbitre politique proposés par des penseurs plus récents comme Sartre, Fanon et Badiou. Travaille également actuellement sur une série de projets plus axés sur la volonté politique, notamment Rousseau, Blanqui et Marx. A travaillé sur un projet sur les philosophes français récents, avec des sections sur Bergson, Sartre, Deleuze, Badiou, Lévinas, Nancy, Henry, Corbin, Jambet, Rosset et Laruelle.

Research Interests : Recent and contemporary political philosophy, theories of democracy, popular empowerment and political change ; conceptions of political will ; recent French Philosophy, especially Sartre, Foucault, Deleuze, Badiou, Ranciere ; contemporary critical theory ; existentialism ; theories of globalization ; postcolonial theory.

Current Projects : The Will of the People. The goal of this project is to develop and defend a notion of democratic political will, understood as a rational, deliberate, and autonomous capacity for collective self-determination. In addition to canonical philosophical accounts of the will, it will draw in particular on the political works of Rousseau, Kant, Hegel and Marx, as well as Blanqui and Gramsci. It will supplement analysis of these ideas with examination of competing notions of the ’will of the people’ that emerged through the revolutionary struggles that began in the late eighteenth century, and with critical discussion of the quasi-voluntarist accounts of purposeful political agency advanced by more recent thinkers like Sartre, Fanon and Badiou. I am also currently working on a series of more focussed projects on political will, engaging with Rousseau, Blanqui and Marx respectively. I have been working on and off on a project on recent French philosophers, with sections on Bergson, Sartre, Deleuze, Badiou, Levinas, Nancy, Henry, Corbin, Jambet, Rosset and Laruelle.
